As the only umbrella organisation for the Leeds Jewish community, the LJRC has always taken its responsibility very seriously and tried to be as inclusive of all elements of both secular and religious Jewish life as possible.
In October 2016 we arranged a series of meetings between a representative of Keshet UK, a national Jewish LGBT+ body, and some of our lay leaders and clergy. Although the discussion centered around the needs and safeguarding of the LGBT+ community, it seemed evident that there was also a lack of opportunity for them to meet other Jewish members, a situation which we were eager to rectify.
With the help of Suzanne Benjamin, the first event was quickly planned and Jpride’s hugely successful launch event took place on January 21st, attracting a range of ages and interest from as far afield as Manchester and Sheffield. Attendees commented on the friendly atmosphere and were keen to get involved in developing a programme of further events with a games evening, bagel brunch and summer bbq already planned in. A partner group for friends and family of the LGBT+ community is in the pipeline.
If you would like to participate in either of these groups, please contact the office or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
