PEARLS

CHAIRMAN: Michelle Morris

AIMS AND ACTIVITIES: PEARLS is the name of the mikvah committee and stands for Personal Education and Religious Learning Schemes.

PEARLS is responsible for the upkeep and running of the new community mikvah at 411 Harrogate Road by organising fundraising functions and providing education about Mikvah to different sections of the community, e.g. Bat Chayil classes, women’s groups etc.

PEARLS aims to train those who already use the mikvah as educators who can reach out to women not yet fully aware of the importance of the mitzvah of Taharas Hamishpochoh. It hopes to attract those women who, for various reasons, have not attended mikvah since their wedding. Another vital part of the committee’s work is to encourage brides to continue with mikvah throughout their marriage.

PEARLS also provide a “wedding pack” to all newly married couples who are married under orthodox auspices and are to be resident in Leeds. The pack consists of a discount card, travel candlesticks, information leaflets, Rakusen’s food pack & cookery book, “Really Jewish Food Guide” and Leeds Jewish Representative Council Year Book.
